Letters for gender-affirming medical care
A clear process, with respect for your time and your identity.
If your medical provider or insurer requests a mental health letter, you deserve a clear explanation of the assessment, the cost, and what the letter can address. You do not need to begin ongoing therapy to request this service.
Start with your provider’s requirements
Requirements can differ by provider, procedure, and insurer. At the consult, we’ll discuss what has been requested and whether my credentials and assessment can meet that requirement.
If you have written requirements, let me know. We can arrange an appropriate way to share them before deciding how to proceed.
What the process involves
-
A free consult
We clarify the request, discuss the process, and decide whether this service is a fit.
-
An assessment
We discuss your goals, relevant history, understanding of the care you’re seeking, and support needs.
-
Documentation and next steps
If a letter is appropriate, we discuss its content and how it will reach the intended provider.
The assessment is individualized. The number of sessions and whether a letter can be provided depend on your circumstances and the applicable requirements.
My approach
I work from an informed-consent stance and prepare letters in line with WPATH Standards of Care version 8. The assessment takes your identity seriously and focuses on the relevant clinical and documentation requirements.
A provider or insurer makes its own acceptance decision. I cannot guarantee acceptance, but we can clarify requirements and questions before you proceed.
